Preface:
Since 1973, I have had
but one mission … to bring honor and glory to my
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I will be with
them that will say:
“Blessing, and honour,
and glory, and power, be unto him that
sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever
and ever.” [Revelation 5:13b]
The General Epistle of
James
This is a commentary of the book of James, an Apostle of Jesus Christ, and one of the Sons of Thunder.
2 Timothy 3:16
All scripture is given by inspiration of
God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof,
for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
The Guideline:
“Study to shew thyself
approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be
ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
[2 Timothy 2:15]
My goal in this
commentary is to: BELIEVE the Bible, and
to not USE the Bible.
This Bible is the
Authorized Version of 1611, or any of its editions,
commonly called the King James Bible.
This commentary of
James will attempt to be a verse-by-verse
study:
1.
Expounding the doctrine
of each verse,
2.
Providing the historical
or prophetical application of the verse,
3.
Including the practical,
[and or] the spiritual application of the
verse,
4.
Maintaining the context
of the scripture wherein the verse is
found,
5.
Taking of the plain
literal meaning unless it is obviously
figurative or with similitude.
The General Epistle of James
This general
epistle contains:
1. 5 chapters,
2. 108 verses,
3. 2304 words
A Fishermen by Prophecy:
A life worth living is
all about catching men!
Here are the fishermen
that were to catch men!
Now, open your
Bible to the Gospel according to Luke,
chapter five, verse ten, to see these men:
“And so was
also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which
were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon,
Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.
[Luke 5:10]
Next, we will turn to
chapter six, verse fourteen:
“Simon, (whom he also
named Peter,) and Andrew his brother, James and
John, Philip and Bartholomew,”
[Luke 6:14].
The Authorship of the General Epistle
of James:
The General Epistle of
James was written by James Zebedee, a son of
Thunder, through the Holy Spirit within 3
½ years of the Ascension of the LORD Jesus
Christ – circa 37 A.D.
Along with the Epistle
of Paul the Apostle to the Hebrews, this
general epistle is the oldest of all
the books within the New Testament.
Note:
Now, there are three
men in the New Testament with the name of James.
There is:
1. James, the son of
Zebedee.
2. James, the son
of Alphaeus.
3. James, the Lord's
brother.
This is clearly
seen in the following passages of the Scripture:
- Acts 1:13: “And
when they were come in, they went up into an
upper room, where abode both Peter, and James,
and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas,
Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son
of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the
brother of James.”
- Galatians 1:19:
“But other of the apostles saw I none, save
James the Lord's brother.”
- Jude 1:1: “Jude,
the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of
James, to them that are sanctified by God the
Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and
called:”
A Warning:
In the Scofield Study
Bible, 1909, on page 999, there is a notation
that only two men have the name of James
in the New Testament. In addition, Mr.
Scofield erroneously believed that James, the
son of Alphaeus, is the author of this
general epistle.
James, chapter one:
Verse one:
“James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus
Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered
abroad, greeting.”
James, the son of
Zebedee was among the first of the
apostles to follow Jesus Christ:
James, chapter two:
Verse one:
“My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord
Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect
of persons.”
The LORD is very even handed in all His treatment of men.
That is, God is fair
in all His dealings with mankind, and further, God
is just in all His judgments.
James, chapter three:
Verse one:
“My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that
we shall receive the greater condemnation.”
James, chapter four:
Verse one:
“From whence come wars and fightings among
you? come they not hence, even of your
lusts that war in your members?”
All the wars in history, for the last six thousand years, have occurred because of mankind’s inordinate desire to possess, or enjoy, what belongs to another.
James, chapter five:
Verse one:
“Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for
your miseries that shall come upon you.”
It is evident that the rich of this
world are seemingly in a world of trouble
with the LORD. It is, as if it is the worst thing
imaginable to be rich in this world’s goods.
