The Book of MicahThe Witness Against Us!

Micah 1:2 “Hear, all ye people; hearken, O earth, and all that therein is: and let the Lord God be witness against you, the Lord from his holy temple.”

1. Hearing the WORD of God
2. All People Everywhere
3. The Witness Against You

1. Hearing the WORD of God

God is sending Micah to all people … everywhere this very message: HEAR!

HEAR “the word of the Lord”!

The sound of Micah’s voice has gone into all the earth. God wants us to know that HE is against us.

HE is against us because we are the rebels. [Ezekiel 20:38]

Friend, can you hear the “the word of the Lord”?

Can YOU hear it? Can you hear the sound of my voice? If you can hear the word of God then, faith will come to you. Here is the order of the events:

• Hearing comes by the word of God.

• Faith comes to you by hearing.

What should you do then, my friend? This is what you should do. Immerse yourself in the word of God!!! “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” [Romans 10:17]

The problem that we have here today [in the twenty-first century] is that we have a “famine” “of hearing the words of the Lord.”

Now, who brought this famine to us?  Who would do such a thing?  According to Amos it is God.  According to Amos, the prophet of God, there would come a day when God HIMSELF would do a thing to us. God will cause a famine to occur to all people. Listen to what the prophet said: “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:” [Amos 8:11].

What will this famine do to us?  It will kill us!  It is already upon us.  This “famine” is killing us off as a people and as a nation.  Our families and our marriages are being destroyed in the “famine” “of hearing the words of the Lord.”

We need to have the word of God preached literally from all levels within the infrastructure of our nation to all our people for our spiritual, emotional and physical health. Our very survival depends on the hearing the word of the Lord.

Friend, we have already come to the same point … that Israel had already came to … [by the time of the first advent of Jesus Christ to this earth] in our ability to hear the word of God.  Our hearing today is no longer connected to our understanding . Our understanding of the word of God is now virtually gone. We are in [big time] trouble because we have lost our ability to HEAR the word of God in the heart.

Jesus Christ HIMSELF said this much in the book of Matthew chapter thirteen in verses thirteen through fifteen: “Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.

And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:

For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.” [Matthew 13:15]

Thus, we have a heart problem – hard hearts!  The ears can hear but the heart does not hear.  There is no understanding!

There is a famine of not “hearing the words of the Lord.”

We are in big time trouble! [Our goose is cooked!]

2. All People Everywhere

Now, Micah gave the word. Micah preached the word. The sound of it went to the ends of this earth. “But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.” [Romans 10:18]

The sound of it has gone to all people everywhere … in all the nations. Therefore, we [the people] are totally without excuse. Our mouths have been shut!

Isaiah said this [which is recorded by the Holy Spirit in Isaiah chapter fifty-three, verse one]: “Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?” [Isaiah 53:1]

The sound of it went out to the ends of the earth. Who has BELIEVED our report?

Jesus said this very thing [which is recorded by the Holy Spirit in John chapter twelve, verse thirty-eight]: “That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?” [John 12:38]

What Isaiah has prophesied had been fulfilled. The sound of it went out. Who has BELIEVED?

The Apostle Paul said this [which is recorded by the Holy Spirit in Romans chapter ten, verse sixteen]: “But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?” [Romans 10:16]

The sound of it went out.  Who has BELIEVED the report?

A man acts on what he truly believes in the heart.  Doing is always connected to believing the word of God.

The doings of a man is connected to what a man believes. When a man does not believe in his heart something, [the word of God] he takes no action on that very thing [the word of God]. He just sits there unaffected and unchanged [by the word of God]. He will get to the point [of hardness] [or in dullness to spiritual things] that he will no longer be able to HEAR.

When he can no longer HEAR, he will not be able to OBEY the GOSPEL [by receiving Jesus Christ]. This man will have reached the point of no return where he will not BELIEVE the REPORT that has sounded out to all men everywhere for the last two thousand years.

Now even though there is a famine of hearing the word of God, the word of God [the report] will not return void back to God. Here is the promise in Isaiah chapter fifty-five in verse eleven: “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” [Isaiah 55:11]

3. The Witness Against You

• God has sent HIS prophets to us.
• God has sent HIS evangelists to us.
• God has sent HIS missionaries to us.
• God has sent HIS preachers to us.
• God has sent the Son of God to us.
• God has given the word of God to us.

The Spirit of God states it this way in the book of Hebrews chapter one in verses one and two: “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;” [Hebrews 1:1-2]

These are all witnesses to us.  Let me ask you this.  Are you ready to receive this witness?

Now, “let the Lord God be” a “witness against you.”

This message is for all the people of the earth. Here is verse two again: “Hear, all ye people; hearken, O earth, and all that therein is: and let the Lord God be witness against you, the Lord from his holy temple.”

This message [which is against us] is laid out for us all so clear with the precise precision of the Holy Ghost in the book of the Romans in chapter three. This message is God’s universal condemnation of all the people living on the face of this earth which includes you and me. It is a “boatful of lye” that is dumped on us. It is a moment of truth for you and me. Now, friend, if you have any conscience at all, this condemnation will “skin you alive”. Are you ready to receive God’s witness against you?

“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:

Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways:

And the way of peace have they not known:

There is no fear of God before their eyes.

Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;

Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” [Romans 3:10-23].

Now you have received God’s witness against you.  What are you going to do with it?  Are you going to “paper it over” [or ignore it] and just keep going on the path that you are going on, or are you going do something about it in a way that will “line out” with this BOOK and with the Son of God WHO is Jesus Christ?

God sent this message to all people through HIS prophet Micah: HEAR! HEAR “the word of the Lord”!

For the last twenty-five centuries the sound of Micah’s voice has gone into all the earth. There is no man without an excuse!

Did you hear the “the word of the Lord”?

Did YOU hear it?  If you heard the word of God then, faith will come to you. Hearing comes by the word of God.

Faith comes to you by hearing.
