The Book of MicahWeighed in the Balances

Micah 6:10 “Are there yet the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure that is abominable?
11 Shall I count them pure with the wicked balances, and with the bag of deceitful weights?
12 For the rich men thereof are full of violence, and the inhabitants thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.”

1. No Faith?
2. Bad Treasures
3. Evil Is Good

1. No Faith?

Your end and my end are coming soon.

May God not “hide” His face from you, and me, in that day?

Now, would God do that to us?  He might! He will, if we be “froward”, and if we be “children in whom is no faith.”

This is exactly what is stated in the first place to Israel [and to us] by the Spirit of God in the book of Deuteronomy, chapter thirty-two, verse twenty: “And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be: for they are a very froward generation, children in whom is no faith.” [Deuteronomy 32:20]

Justification is by faith, and this is according to Romans chapter five, verse one: “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:” [Romans 5:1].

Therefore, a person who is found without faith is in big time trouble!

Now, get this.  When God is completely done with a person [being totally fed-up with them], and having had long since hid His face from them … so that HE might see what their end would be, HE then, announces their departure from this life … in a righteous judgment.

They are “weighed in the balances”!

They are “found wanting”!

“Tekel; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.” [Daniel 5:27]

This very thing is what happened to a certain Babylonian king [in the book of Daniel in chapter five].

When God makes the judgment call on you, or me, then we will be troubled, as was Belshazzar.  Look at verse six: “Then the king's countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another.” [Daniel 5:6]

2. Bad Treasures

Now, for verse ten: “Are there yet the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure that is abominable"

Here is a question for you. Can “wickedness” be ever considered good?

Is the wickedness found in “the house of the wicked” … good?

Let me step into this a little deeper.  What a man treasures, the same he will consider as good.  The wicked simply believe their “treasures” are good. Let me re-state it in another way.  To those who are wicked, their wickedness has become their treasure.

The clearest statement to this truth is made by the Holy Spirit when Jesus Christ attested to this [in the book of Matthew chapter six, verse twenty-one]: “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” [Matthew 6:21]

We have the matter of the heart.

Now, consider this following truth.

The heart of a man is connected to whatever he treasures.

Therefore, we can conclude, that the wicked love their wickedness.  And in time, they will love it very OPENLY.  In fact, it gets worse.

Are you ready for this?   The wicked will promote their wickedness … openly … in the full view of a nation.  It always comes out of the closet!

Again, the wicked will promote their “treasures of wickedness” openly … till the whole nation is leavened with their wickedness.

“Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as it were with a cart rope: That say, Let him make speed, and hasten his work, that we may see it: and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw nigh and come, that we may know it!” [Isaiah 5:18-19]

Herein is a BASIC TRUTH!

Sin always pulls downward, and outward … till all is affected.

3. Evil Is Good

Now, for verse eleven and twelve: “Shall I count them pure with the wicked balances, and with the bag of deceitful weights? For the rich men thereof are full of violence, and the inhabitants thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.”

Remember, downward and outward away from God is where sin will take us.  Listen to me!  Sin always takes us further than we ever wanted to go. It twists our thoughts and flips what is “good” upside down in our sight till we are ready to call it “evil”.

Now, you may ask me, how long does this downward destructive transformation take for any people or for any nation?  Here is the Bible’s answer.  This leavening process can occur in as little as one generation for any people, or for any nation.

This is what happened to Judah here in the book of Micah.

Read, for instance, the book of Judges.   See for yourselves what happened to Israel.  Within a one generation to the next things went quickly from good to bad … multiple times.  We can only wonder why they never learned from their lessons.

This is exactly what has happened to America.  Study United States history since the 1950’s.  It is a very sad narrative showing our downward direction.  Why have we not learned from our lessons?

We [in America] have now come to the point of calling “evil good” and “good evil”.

It is in America as what the prophet said [in Isaiah chapter five, verses twenty-one and twenty-two] as it is was in Israel: “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink:” [Isaiah 5:20-22]

God did not count them as pure, [in Micah 6:11], and God will not count us as pure today.  Woe unto us!  Woe unto us when we pervert that which is pure!

Now, for verse twenty-three: “Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him! Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the Lord of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.” [Isaiah 5:23-24]

The people of our nation have come to the place of no faith in the word of the Holy One.

Your end and my end are coming soon.

What are you going to do about it?

The answer is even before you.

It is in this BOOK!  [This BOOK is King James Bible, of 1611, or any of editions, 1613, of 1644, 1676, 1680, 1701, or 1769.]

The Bible shows you and me both, that faith cometh by hearing the word. “But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” [Romans 10:8-9
