Blood
Blood, blood, is everywhere.
“For the life of the
flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to
you upon the altar to make an atonement for your
souls: for it is the blood that maketh
an atonement for the soul.”
[Leviticus 17:11]
We will begin here with
this peculiar scene which is found in the book of
Job in chapter two.
Job 2:4 “And Satan
answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all
that a man hath will he give for his life.”
Notice here what
the Devil said: “Skin for skin.”
That is: What a man is primarily concerned about in
this life is his flesh. Thus, a man is
driven with a passion in an all-encompassing effort
to maintain his physical preservation: His
life! This is the main drive in this our
life.
Now we are ready to turn
to the Third book of Moses called Leviticus
to chapter thirteen, and we will start to read
there.
Leviticus thirteen,
verses one and two:
“And the LORD spake
unto Moses and Aaron, saying,
When a man shall have
in the skin of his flesh a rising, a scab, or bright
spot, and it be in the skin of his flesh like
the plague of leprosy; then he shall be brought unto
Aaron the priest, or unto one of his sons the
priests:”
In our text [here in
verse two] we see that Aaron is a priest.
Now what is a priest?
Well, a priest is someone who is ordained to
deal with the things that pertain to God in behalf
of men who are plagued with sin [that he
may offer to a Holy God an acceptable sacrifice for
a man’s sins], without which he will surely die in
the Devil’s hell.
See for this: [Romans
6:23a]: “For the wages of sin is death;”
and [Revelation 20:14]: “And death and hell were
cast into the lake of fire. This is the second
death.”
This all shows us that
men need help. They need a priest.
Aaron was a man from a
tribe of Israel. This tribe was
the tribe of Levi one of the twelve tribes
of Israel.
Levi was ordained to
cover for man’s sins of the flesh with the blood
of bulls and of goats:
Hebrews 9:13: “For if
the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an
heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the
purifying of the flesh:”
This Levitical
priesthood had to go on perpetually in
these offerings year by year until there could be a
final solution, a remedy.
Now note: Aaron was
not the first priest to show up on this earth.
There is someone else that we will need to
meet. But who is he? Here we go,
the first recorded appearance of a
priest showing up on this earth is found in the
First book of Moses called Genesis, in
chapter fourteen. Read verse eighteen:
“And Melchizedek king
of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was
the priest of the most high God.”
Melchizedek was also, a
king. He was the king of Salem.
He was a rather peculiar person. He had no
father. He had no mother. The Book
records that Melchizedek had no beginning
and that he has no end.
Further, the name
Melchizedek is by interpretation King of
righteousness, and King of peace. Now,
how do we know this about him? It’s in
the BOOK!
Hebrews 7:2-3:
“To whom also Abraham
gave a tenth part of all; first being by
interpretation King of righteousness, and after that
also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;
Without father,
without mother, without descent, having neither
beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like
unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.”
Before Aaron was a
priest, Melchizedek was a priest.
Remember what we had said earlier, men need a
priest.
MEN NEED A PRIEST!
Notice the LORD GOD of
heaven and of earth drills down with precision to
the problems of the flesh of men. Problems
of the flesh, you say? Yes sir, there
is a big time problem within man’s flesh. It is a
killer. Now, it all goes back to a garden.
The garden is where the problem began.
This historic event is
recorded for all of us to read in the First book of
Moses, called Genesis, in chapter three. We
read there the tragic narrative of mankind’s
immediate spiritual death, and the start
of the clock of death to his flesh – the
physical body. Adam’s sin did us all in.
The Sands of
Time
The Clock of Death
Thus, we have here, the
GOD of the BIBLE having to provide [in a BOOK], the
book of Leviticus, regulations to deal with
the problems of the FLESH, i.e., the physical bodies
of men sick with sin.
Men are plagued with
sin.
It takes a priest
to deal with a plague. We need a
priest!
Leviticus 13:3:
“And the priest shall
look on the plague in the skin of the flesh: and
when the hair in the plague is turned white, and
the plague in sight be deeper than the skin
of his flesh, it is a plague of leprosy: and
the priest shall look on him, and pronounce him
unclean.”
